How To Write Optimized Blog Post For Search Engines With Yoast SEO Plugin

Now that you have installed Yoast SEO Plugin, from the left menu under “Posts” click on “Add New” and it will bring you to this page, where you can start writing your posts.

The First thing you have to do is scroll down to where you can find the Yoast SEO Plugin you have just installed.

Look at the above image where it says “Analysis results”. You will see so many red and orange dots there. You are supposed to change all of them to green. It is not compulsory that you will get all of them right green. But the more you get, the better optimized your post is, for search engines to easily pick it up. So let’s get started.

Add Your Focus KeyPhrase

The first thing you should do is to type in the Focus KeyPhrase of the post you are writing in the “Focus keyphrase” section above. If you don’t, you are going to see “SEO not available” as in the image below.

and you cannot optimize your post. But once you add the Focus KeyPhrase, you will see a ‘Y’ just like in the “Readability” from the image above. The Y color could be red if your optimization is not good. It could be orange if your optimization is fair, and it will be green if your post optimization is good.

Focus Keyphrase is like a phrase that people are searching on google or any other search engine, that will make your post appear and probably lead them to your website.

In my case I have used “How to write optimized blog posts for search engines” as my focus keyphrase. It may not be the best but that’s what I have used. Now when you scroll down you can see that I have all types of reds and oranges and few greens. And my SEO says “SEO: OK” with orange color. You will see it when you scroll down. My main aim here is to change most of them to green as much as I can.

Begin Your Post Title With The Focus KeyPhrase

Yes, the next thing after you write add focus keyphrase is to write a title for the post and ensure that it begins with the focus keyphrase  like this.

Make Sure Your Focus KeyPhrase Appears On The First Paragraph Of Your Post

Add Your Focus KeyPhrase In 2, 3 Or 4 Other Places On Your Post

Depending on your post length, you will need to add your focus keyphrase to few other places on your blog post to let google bots easily understand what your post is talking about. If the density of your keyphrase is great on your post, then your post is likely to show up more on search results when people perform a search on google that includes that keyphrase. Note: Do not over do it. Simply watch your green dots below on keyphrase. Make sure it stays green. 🙂

Add A Meta Description

Now, the next thing I am going to do is add a “meta description”  Here is an example of a meta description on google search results.

They are those text snippets that appear on google search results giving more highlights on what the post is about

If you do not add a meta description, then google uses the beginning part of your blog post as the meta description.

To add a meta description simply click anywhere on the area marked with red in the image below.

Ensure you include the focus keyphrase in the meta description. Note that, as you are writing the meta description,  there will be an orange bar below it. Keep writing more words till the bar turns green as in below.

Use Images To Make Your Post Easier To Understand.

As you can see in this post, I use images to make what I am saying clearer. So use images on your post wherever necessary to convey the message for better understanding to anyone reading  your post. This helps to write optimized blog posts for search engines.

Put A Link  Or Links To Other Posts On Your Website

Search engine bots crawl your website often to help you index it on search engines and they travel by links (not roads) 🙂 When search engine bots crawl your website, It is easier for them to index your page more on the search engines if they can find links to other posts and pages from the current post they are on. It makes the movement smooth and easy for them.

So when writing your posts, it is necessary to link to another post on your website, that relate to your current post, or that will help the reader understand the current post more.

To practice this, I am going to link to another post now, on this website titled How To Start Your Blog (On WordPress) 🙂  This is another great tip to write optimized blog posts for search engines.

Put Links To Other Blog Posts Or Websites Outside Your Website

Yes, you don’t have to be stingy 🙂  Pardon the jokes. But this comes handy if you are reviewing a website or a product. You can easily put a link to that website on your blog post. This helps in a great way to write optimized blog post for search engines. To practice it in this example, I am going to link out to YOAST SEO Plugin Website since I am featuring it on this post.

Let’s See Our Results So Far To Write Optimized Blog Posts For Search Engines

and finally

When these two things are checked green, that means you are doing a great job to write optimized blog posts for search engines.

Now there two not ok dots still left. One red, and one orange dots left in the Focus key phrase  analysis section but, they are very easy to fix.

The first one, is to put alternative texts to the images on the post, so that if the image does not show, the reader can still understand what image you were trying to display there.

The second one is because they recommend me to use 4 words in the keyphrase section but I use more. That is just personal to me. I like to use they keyphrase I want the way I want it. However, you can reduce yours to 4 and you will fix that easily.
