Why You Should Never Put Entrance PopUps On Your Website

What Are Entrance Popups?

Entrance popups are actually those pages you see immediately when you visit a website, that asks you to subscribe or put your email in form, before you even start to read the content of the website.  On the other hand we have exit popups and what I like to call in-content.

Exit popups appear the moment a user is trying to click the x button on a website. This indicates that they have finished reading and are about to leave.

In content popups (as I like to call them for now) are popups that appear while the reader is in the middle of reading the website content.

I know a lot people might not have recognized this about entrance popups. But have you ever really thought about how you feel when you are trying to enter a website and something pops up? It just feels like it is blocking your way. It really feels bad.

Here Is Why It Feels Bad

Here is the reason why it feels bad. A lot of people don’t realize it but those two moments are moments of intense interest.

For the entrance time, it is a time of intense interest anxiety and thirst for a value. A value which he came to get, that made them leave their friends fun on social network, to come to your website.

Now when they arrive at your website, their mindset is usually focused seriously on that topic they saw on search engine or social network. That is the main thing they are concerned about at that moment.

Any interruption at this moment will annoy them, and they will most likely close it immediately, because it is a distraction. THEY HAVEN’T GOT ANY VALUE FROM YOU YET, AND YOU ARE ASKING FOR SOMETHING.

Another way to think about it is this. A customer has come to your shop to buy a shoe because he saw a shoe commercial you put on the TV. He comes in, and before he sits to test the shoe and see if his legs can fit in, you are already asking him for his phone number.

It wouldn’t be that nice.

So When Is Actually The Right Time To Show Popups On Your Website?

In the middle of the time when a visitor is reading your post, and at the exit time of a visitor. Here is why.

At this point, he is probably enjoying your post. He has got what he needs, and is happy about it. He may want to get more. This feeling of happiness can occur to the visitor, any time from the middle of your post till the exit time.

And it is the best time, to show them a popup. It is way better to show them popups at this time, than in the entrance. I have come across many websites that show popups the very second I land on the website. It is really annoying, and that is why I decided to write this post.

When your visitors come to your website, let them relax first for a minute or two, and read your content. Let them fill at least some percentage of their thirst, they came to fill first. Then you can show a popup.

It is the love of what they have got from your blog post that will make them decide to opt in in your popups. When they have got what they like, they will  certainly like to get more.

Thank you for reading, and have a great day. Please share this post on social media, and leave your thoughts in the comment section below. I really love to hear your thoughts on this. Let’s be interactive.
